What is a Celebrant?
A Celebrant writes and officiates personalised ceremonies for all those special occasions in life including Wedding Celebrations, naming ceremonies and renewal of vows.
When would I need a Celebrant?
If you want to hold your Wedding ceremony in an unlicensed venue or outside on unlicensed land then you would need a Celebrant to lead your ceremony.
However, Celebrants can also work in licensed venues as well.
If you would like to renew your vows, maybe for a special Anniversary or just as a way to show your commitment to each other as a couple.
If you want to welcome your child to your family and friends where and how you want to.
You can hold a naming ceremony either at a venue or in your own home.
If you have a special occasion where you want to mark the importance of the event with a ceremony or speech at a “big” birthday, special Anniversary, engagement party or any other gathering of celebration.
Why would I choose a Celebrant for my Wedding if I have a licenced venue?
There are a lot of reasons you would choose a Celebrant including:
-
You want a bespoke ceremony written with you, about you, telling your story
-
You want the Ceremony to include readings and symbolic actions that reflect you as a couple including any religious content, or none, you wish to include
-
You want to write your own vows to each other – or I can help with the words
-
You want to build a working relationship with the person officiating your ceremony
-
You want your Ceremony at a time unavailable on the Registrars list
-
Your ceremony is at a licensed venue, but you want to use a room (or outdoor area) that is not covered by the license.
What happens if I book you as my Celebrant?
I will arrange to meet with you face to face for an initial, no obligation consultation when we will discuss your occasion and to give you information to decide if you want to go ahead with the booking.
Once you have confirmed the booking, We will arrange a second more in-depth meeting, usually lasting around two hours, to get to know each other and discuss all the things you want to include in your ceremony. Don’t worry – it won’t be a taxing interview – just a good chat.
At this point I will confirm prices with you and request a 50% deposit.
I will then start to create your ceremony with emails and texts along the way to keep in touch and check out any questions they may have.
You will be given the chance to read a draft and you always have the final say on what is in the ceremony.
On the day, I will arrive in good time to get set up and will then brief your group on what will happen during the ceremony. Finally, your beautiful, personalised ceremony will be conducted in front of all your family and friends with all the content you want to be included and at the perfect time and location for you.
NOTE – for your marriage to be legal you still require a registrar to conduct the legal aspect of your ceremony if you are getting married or having a civil partnership. However this can be done in a short ceremony (just 41 words each!) at the registry office before your Wedding Celebration and you can save all the personal vows for the Celebrant-led ceremony.
